KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo City Manager Kenneth Collard's last day in his position will be Nov. 11. That evening is set to be the first meeting for incoming city manager Jim Ritsema. It also will serve as the swearing-in for the new Kalamazoo City Commission after the Nov. 5 election.

The commission, during a special meeting Wednesday, decided to reopen its search for a city manager without the firm it has worked with since February. Commissioners voted unanimously to terminate a contract with California-based search consultant Bob Murray & Associates.

California firm picked for Kalamazoo City Manager Search

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo City Commission has picked Roseville, Calif.-based headhunting firm Bob Murray & Associates to lead the search for the next city manager. Of the three firms, Bob Murray & Associates is the only one that has recruited before in Michigan, having recruited in the past for Wayne County, Mich.
