Battles expected over dune developments in Michigan

When Gov. Rick Snyder signed legislation in August easing restrictions on development in critical sand dune areas, it set the stage for battles across the state between private property owners and conservation groups. Today, the first major dunes fight will be joined in Muskegon County's White River Township.

Van Buren County tentatively approves study of Lake Michigan dune

PAW PAW, MI -- The Van Buren County Board of Commissioners has tentatively OK'd a research proposal for the large sand dune that straddles the North Point Land Preserve and the Syndicate Park subdivision south of South Haven. "Essentially, the proposal is to take an academic review of Syndicate Park," Commissioners John "Mike" Henry said during Tuesday's county board meeting.
