State plans to investigate utilities handling of power outages

Consumers Energy and DTE say they welcome review
Michigan regulators will investigate the way two major utilities handled a December ice storm that knocked out power for up to a week for 661,000 customers across the state. Meanwhile, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero appointed a retired Michigan National Guard brigadier general to lead a probe of the performance of a third utility the Lansing Board of Water and Light and asked state regulators to review the probe once its finished.

State officials say heating bills should be lower this year

But weather could cause fluctuations
LANSING - Michiganders' heating bills should be lower than last year as long as the weather cooperates. Lower prices for natural gas, propane and heating oil should counterbalance the effects of higher consumption to keep residential heating bills lower this winter, according to the Michigan Public Service Commission.
