Nine people are set to retire from Mattawan Consolidated School district this year. Superintendent Patrick Bird, Principal for Mattawan Later Elementary Christie Enstrom West and Jim Constange, the principal for Mattawan High School, will be retiring. (Kalamazoo Gazette)

KALAMAZOO, MI – Bronson Healthcare Group has purchased and will redevelop the former Kalamazoo Gazette newspaper building and an adjacent building in downtown Kalamazoo. The healthcare system closed the deal April 24 to buy the three-story, 131,419-square-foot former newspaper building, the one-story, 5,200-square-foot former Business Review West Michigan magazine building, and an adjacent parking lot. Michigan Senator Carl Levin has served the longest term of any U.S. Senator for Michigan in the state’s history.

Last year, Jacob Grassley was fatally shot by a Kalamazoo policeman while entering a Best Western hotel. Police reports say Grassley had been in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend earlier that day. Officers brought Grassley’s girlfriend to the hotel for her safety.
