A millage increase will be sought to pay off a bond for the new facility
A new library in Douglas needs to be a symbol in the community, serve the needs of a diverse group of users and have more accessible bathrooms.More than 75 area residents offered their input at two public meetings Tuesday to shape the future of a new Saugatuck-Douglas District Library."This will help us develop a full community use at the library," Donna Nowak, a library board trustee, told the evening group of about 30 people.The library board includes representatives from the cities of

New library planned for Saugatuck-Douglas

Demand for services has prompted plans for new building
Since 1871, the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library has moved locations or changed buildings four times. Because of enormous growth in circulation and programming needs, the library is beginning plans to move again. A leadership team has been formed to help raise funds for a proposed new library building at Center Street and Harborview Drive in Douglas.
