Scammers target grandparents over the phone

A scammer has been calling elderly people claiming to be their grandson. Once the victim has repeated the name of their grandson to the scammer, the scammer then asks the victim to transfer money into an account.
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI - The Sheriff's Department said older residents have been targeted in a phone scam in which a caller, pretending to be a grandson, asks cash to be wired because he is in trouble. In a typical complaint, the victim, often elderly, receives a call from someone claiming to be the victim's oldest grandson.

Scammers threaten Consumers Energy customers

KALAMAZOO, MI - By phone and door-to-door, imposter bill collectors are scamming utility customers by claiming service will be disconnected unless a credit card payment is made, Consumers Energy warns. According to a news release from the utility, Southwest Michigan is the area hardest hit by the imposters.
