Criminal Charges Issued in Connection with Springfield Medical Marijuana Raids

Six people now are charged following a raid of three Springfield medical marijuana dispensaries last year. The Calhoun County prosecutor issued the warrants Friday and Michigan State Police have begun to make arrests.

Springfield hires new city manager

Nathan Henne said he expects to sign a contract Monday to become the next Springfield city manager. Henne, 28, was selected by the council Thursday after interviews with the four candidates seeking to fill the position vacated by Frank Peterson, who leaves after five years to become manager of Muskegon.

Calhoun County Sheriff to begin providing road patrols in Springfield at end of the month

Springfield chose to contract out road patrols to cut costs
The beginning of contracted police services for Springfield is expected to begin at the end of the month. Springfield Mayor Sue Anderson and Sheriff Matt Saxton said last week that review of a proposed contract has taken longer than expected but should be complete soon.

Springfield names four finalists for city manager

Interviews are scheduled for next week
Four people, three with Michigan ties, are finalists for Springfield city manager. If chosen by the city council, one of the men will replace Frank Peterson, who resigned to become city manager in Muskegon. Peterson leaves the job Thursday. All four candidates are expected to attend a public open house at Springfield City Hall from 5:30 p.m.

Calhoun County to provide policing for city of Springfield

Council had already decided to close public safety department to address financial shortfall
Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies will be patrolling the City of Springfield by Sept. 1 after the city council approved a policing contract Monday night. Five of seven council members agreed to negotiate a five-year contract with the sheriff department while two others said they preferred a contract with the City of Battle Creek Police Department.
