I-94 Pile-up Causes Probed

A Michigan State Police investigator says he's never seen anything like the disaster last week near Galesburg, and hopes he never sees another one like it again.

State Police say clean-up of an acid spill during the incident is the biggest obstacle to re-opening the freeway.

I-94 Pile-up Kills at Least 1, others injured

Among the vehicles involved as a semi hauling fireworks that caught fire an exploded, closing the freeway for hours Friday near Galesburg.
A crash involving dozens of vehicles this morning on I-94 between Battle Creek and Galesburg killed one person and closed the freeway, drawing an areawide response from police, fire, rescue and community resources. Some vehicles were burning in the smashup west of Exit 92.

Massive Weather-Related Pile-up on I-94

Officials say a semi involved in the incident was carrying fireworks that caught fire and exploded, closing the freeway for several hours in both directions Friday near Galesburg.
GALESBURG, MI - A deadly crash on I-94 near Galesburg involved 50 to 70 vehicles, including a semi-truck that was carrying hazardous materials, Michigan State Police said. Local HAZMAT officials are at the scene near mile marker 90 and are "monitoring the situation," MSP officials said in a news release issued just after noon on Friday.

PLAINWELL, MI -- A structure fire at Another Man's Treasure, an antique store at 120 N. Main St. in downtown Plainwell, has closed M-89. The fire at the two story brick store has shut down M-89/Allegan Street in both directions between Church Street and Woodham Street, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
