Calhoun County Unemployment Rate Down Compared to Year Ago

Calhoun County’s unemployment rate dropped last month as the area saw a more than 15 percent increase in seasonal construction hiring, according to state data released Thursday. The Michigan Bureau of Labor Market Information reported that Calhoun County had a 6 percent jobless rate in April. That’s lower than the area’s 7 percent rate in March and the 7.2 percent rate reported a year ago.

LANSING, MI - Unemployment fell in West Michigan in March, reflecting a statewide trend in which the number of jobless claims fell while total employment rose, according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget. Unemployment fell to 6.0 percent in the Grand Rapids-Wyoming and the Holland - Grand Haven metropolitan areas, the agency reported on Thursday, April 24.

Unemployment Down in Calhoun County

Calhoun County unemployment improved last month as the area saw job gains in construction and educational and health services, according to state data released Thursday. The Bureau of Labor Market Information reported a 7 percent jobless rate for the county in March, down from 7.4 percent in February.

Michigan unemployment rate drops to lowest point since 2008

LANSING, MI -- Michigan's unemployment rate dropped to 7.8 percent in January, down from 8.3 percent in December. The numbers, released Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, are the lowest since May 2008. Total employment rose by 32,000 from December to January, according to the department, while the total number of unemployed declined by 20,000.

State unemployment up slightly, down compared to last year

Employment was flat this July yet ten thousand more Michiganders claimed to be unemployed last month. Analysts say that’s because more people were looking for jobs in July.
LANSING - Michigan's unemployment rate ticked up to 8.8 percent in July, marking the second consecutive monthly increase as more people entered the job market. The rate rose from 8.7 percent in June and 8.5 percent in May.
