Poll shows race for Michigan governor, U.S. Senate should be close

The poll shows Governor Rick Snyder beating Democrat Mark Schauer by just four percent, while incumbent U.S. Senator Terri Lynn Land wins over challenger Gary Peters by two percent.
LANSING - A poll released today shows close races for both Michigan governor and the U.S. Senate, a little less than a year away from 2014 election. The poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) of Raleigh, N.C., shows Gov. Rick Snyder leading Democratic challenger Mark Schauer 44% to 40%.

Holland's mayor considers U.S. Senate bid

Dykstra says he'll make a final decision about joining the GOP primary race "soon".
With the announcement of U.S. Rep. Dave Camp withdrawing from a possible U.S. Senate run, Holland Mayor Kurt Dykstra announced in a statement today he will open up again his exploration into running for the seat. Long-time Michigan Sen. Carl Levin announced early this year he would not seek re-election to the seat he's held since 1979.

West Michigan Congressman Fred Upton (R-Saint Joseph) isn’t ruling out a run for U.S. Senate next year. He isn’t ruling it in, either. With Democrat Carl Levin’s decision to retire next year, Upton says Republicans have a chance to take that seat in 2014.
