State Says Farm's Manure Spraying Did Not Cause Lake Erie Algae

Department of Environmental Quality says practice is allowed under agricultural practices
A citizens environmental group is raising a stink over the large Hudson Dairy farm's manure spraying on vacant croplands, worried nutrients may make their way into nearby streams and western Lake Erie, where a nutrient-fed toxic algae bloom shut down Toledo-area water supplies in August.

No Contact Order Lifted for Two Allegan County Waterways

Health officials say water samples show bacteria levels that are no longer significant
ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- County health officials have lifted a no-contact advisory for Bear Creek and parts of the Rabbit River after a February liquid manure spill from a farm. The advisory was issued Feb. 17 because of risk for high bacteria levels following the discovery of a stormwater system failure at the Schaendorf dairy farm in Monterey Township.
