Wayne State University will offer in-state tuition to potential students hailing from a number of states around the Great Lakes, including Ontario, Canada. The move is a chance for the university to reverse a slide in enrollment through offering a hefty price break for potential students.

Wayne State University names new president

M. Roy Wilson will replace Allen Gilmour who is retiring. Wilson begins work August first
Wayne State University officially has a new president. The Detroit school's Board of Governors today unanimously approved Dr. M. Roy Wilson to head the school, replacing retiring Allan Gilmour. Wilson, currently deputy director for strategic scientific planning and program coordination at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, spent Tuesday and Wednesday on campus in private meetings with different faculty and staff groups.

The Wayne State University Board of Governors didn't blink Wednesday in the face of threats from the Legislature to slash the school's state funding, as it passed an eight-year labor contract with its faculty on a straight party-line vote.

Wayne State President defends long contract for faculty

Republican lawmakers have raised concerns that contract may be effort to circumvent new "right to work" law.
LANSING - Wayne State University President Allan Gilmour came out swinging this morning in Lansing, asking Republican lawmakers whether an eight-year labor contract for faculty or continued cuts in state funding were worse for students. Gilmour contended it is the latter, a point he tried to stress to members of the state House higher education subcommittee.

Wayne State faculty union nears contract agreement

Wayne State faculty hope to have contract in place before Michigan's "right to work" law takes effect.
Detroit - Wayne State University's faculty union could reach a contract that would block a right-to-work option as soon as this week, union officials said Monday. "Progress is being made and we can see the end of the negotiations," said Charles Parrish, president of the American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers' WSU chapter.
