Homeless confront cold in Calhoun County

When the temperature was in the high 30s, Abie McKellepp packed an extra pair of socks, a sweater and sweatpants to stay warm so he could sleep in Bailey Park. With help from a Battle Creek police officer, a shivering McKellepp found his way to The Haven of Rest for warm shelter.

Winter weather means slower growing for Michigan farmers, but it doesn’t stop them from selling their produce at outlets like indoor farmers markets. Winter’s market business doesn’t rival summer’s, but it has been growing in recent years.
