Last Two Kalamazoo Schools Finally Out for Summer

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Today is the last day of school for Spring Valley Center for Exploration and Washington Writers' Academy, among the last kids in the region to start their summer break. Kalamazoo Public Schools was originally scheduled to end its school year on Wednesday, June 11, but the school year had to be extended for most students because of snow days.

Great Lakes Water Levels Rise as Snow Melts

Great Lakes water levels are definitely rising due to the ample snow melt in the last two months. The top pictures were taken at a location where it is easy to see the change. The shoreline at the Old Mission Peninsula Lighthouse in Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan drops off very slowly.

Ice Cover Left on Some of Great Lakes

Lake Superior is still over 60 percent covered in ice as of yesterday Saturday April 26, 2014. The satellite pictures shown above were the latest I could find that had clear skies and good vision of the ice. These high resolution satellite images come from April 23 and April 24, 2014.

Cool Summer Could Follow Michigan's Cold Winter
