KALAMAZOO, MI - Nearly a year after Kalamazoo County officials received a consultant's report outlining the need for a countywide consolidated 911 dispatch center, public discussion surrounding the topic is resuming. The consolidated dispatch steering committee, composed of representatives from the cities of Kalamazoo and Portage; Kalamazoo County; Kalamazoo Township and Western Michigan University, will hold a public meeting at 1 p.m.

Van Buren Voters To Vote Again on 911 Tax

Sixty-two percent of voters supported an increased 75 cent telephone surcharge to pay for 911 service, but the proposal wasn't supposed to be on the ballot until November.
VAN BUREN, MI -- Sixty-two percent of Van Buren County voters last week backed a new telephone surcharge to fund 911 service. But that vote is invalid because the question shouldn't have been on the August ballot, Van Buren County Administrator Doug Cultra said.
