Upton: Get PCB's out of Kalamazoo landfill

West Michigan Congressman Fred Upton says PCB contamination does not belong in Kalamazoo’s Allied Paper Landfill. The Saint Joseph Republican and Michigan’s two U.S. senators sent the Environmental Protection Agency a letter last week. It asked the agency to approve “total removal” of contamination at the site on Kalamazoo’s east side.

Allied Paper Landfill cleanup protest planned

Opponents of a proposal to keep toxic PCB contamination in a Kalamazoo landfill plan to hold a protest march next week. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has suggested that the material could be safely contained at the Allied Paper Landfill on Kalamazoo’s east side. But area residents, city officials, and environmental groups say it should be completely removed.

Kalamazoo approves $200,000 for lobbying advocacy for removal of toxic waste

EPA has proposed $36-million plan to cap and monitor waste at the landfill, rather than remove it entirely.

At the request of Kalamazoo city staff, the Kalamazoo City Commission agreed to provide $200,000 to back the city's stance that toxic waste at the Allied Paper landfill in the Edison neighborhood should be completely removed

A public forum is being held Monday night on PCB contamination at the former Allied Paper landfill in Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo River Cleanup Coalition is hosting the forum in the Bernhard Center at Western Michigan University, it begins at 7:00.
