Horn player Ron Chase, oboist Wendy Mazer, and pianist Barbara Hong are friends and musicians who enjoy the chance to play music together with their colleagues four times a year at the Ladies Library of Kalamazoo. This Friday, they'll close the fifth season of the Arcadia Winds & Ensemble des Amis with a variety of works for winds and piano, including Carl Reinecke's Sextet for winds, Op 271; Mozart's Serenade, K375, and works by James Cohn and Jules Massenet. The concert and following reception are free and open to the public. Chase, Mazer and Hong discuss the works on the program and the pleasure of performing in the historic music hall at the Ladies Library.

From Duck and Bird in Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, to the Migrating Swans in Rautavaara's Cantus Arcticus, the Arcadia Winds will celebrate wildlife in music on Friday at 7:30 pm in the Richmond Auditorium of the Ladies Library. Flutist Bobbi Coleman, pianist Barbara Hong, and Ladies Library Association president Marge Kars joined Cara Lieurance to preview the program.

In a free concert on Friday at 7:30 pm at the Ladies Library of Kalamazoo, the Arcadia Winds will perform Malcolm Arnold's clever and funny work, Three Shanties For Wind Quintet, Op 4. The program also includes the Arioso Trio, performing music of Handel, Beethoven's Trio for clarinet, cello and piano, Op 11, and two of Georg Philip Telemann's Fantasies for Flute, played by flutist Bobbi Coleman. Coleman, pianist Barbara Hong, oboist Wendy Mazer, and Paula Jamison of the Ladies Library Association preview the concert with Cara Lieurance.

Established as a quintet, the Arcadia Winds will expand to 17 players to perform the Serenade No. 2 in A by Johannes Brahms on Friday night at the Ladies Library of Kalamazoo. The Arcadia Woodwind Quintet resumes its season at the Ladies Library of Kalamazoo on Friday at 7:30 pm. Horn player Ron Chase and bassoonist Judy Belland, two members of the Arcadia Woodwind Quintet, discuss the various works on the program. And Ladies Library Association member Paula Jamison sings the praises of the venue, which has been the center of the association's activities since 1878.
