The hedge rows on Pleasant Hill Farm

Sometimes when driving the back roads of Southwest Michigan, you still see lines of trees or bushes dividing the fields or marching along the borders. Years ago, farmers planted hedge rows not just to mark the boundaries of their land, but also as wind breaks to protect their crops. It was also a shady place to pause when plowing with a team of horses.

The Ann Arbor band The Appleseed Collective just ended their album release tour for Young Love, which came out in January. The band will play a show with Trout Steak Revival Thursday night at 9 p.m. at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo.

Last November, Wellspring/Cori Terry & Dancers premiered their collaboration Old World New with the Red Sea Pedestrians. Now the dance troupe is performing live with Grand Valley State University's New Music Ensemble this weekend in their new program Orbit.
