Holidays change. Halloween wasn’t always about getting candy and the first Thanksgiving probably didn’t involve watching football.  Saturday is Tu B’shvat, or ‘New Year for the Trees,’a minor Jewish holiday that’s changed at least three times.

Local band blurs the lines between funk, rock, jam and punk

Kalamazoo band Pleasant Drive will play Friday night at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. Band members Jason Curtis and Evan Kincaid describe their music as dynamic. From song to song, you could hear influences from Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, or The White Stripes.

KCC students, staff to tour European world war battle sites

Most Americans go to Europe to see the sights and have a good time. But a group of students and faculty from Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek will leave on a more serious mission in May. They’ll explore battlefield sites from the two world wars. One of the tour leaders, history instructor Michelle Wright, says that being there provides a “three-dimensional” perspective you can’t get from books and movies.
