Western Michigan University cut the ribbon Friday on a new program to help people with autism and related disorders. Michigan Lieutenant-Governor Brian Calley was among those on hand for the event. Calley says it shouldn't be a surprise that the Western Evaluation Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, or WECAN, is in Kalamazoo.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley is pushing for changes in Michigan’s special education system. He outlined findings of his special education listening tour and survey on Tuesday to the state Board of Education.

(MPRN-Lansing) Despite getting the go-ahead from a state board made up largely of physicians, Michigan will not allow autism patients to use medical marijuana. 

"State officials on Monday acknowledged they’d omitted hundreds of pages of medical studies from packets supplied to a state review panel slated to consider medical marijuana for treating autism. The panel will reconvene July 31 to reconsider autism, officials said." (Detroit Free Press)
