March marks Amtrak's best month ever

WASHINGTON - Amtrak ridership increased in the first six months of fiscal year 2013, with ridership in March setting a record as the single best month ever in Amtrak's history, the railroad said Tuesday. Ridership grew 0.9 percent from October 2012 to March compared with the same period one year earlier despite disruptions from weather including Superstorm Sandy.

Local committee wants fracking ban on the 2014 ballot

Members of the Committee to Ban Michigan Fracking say the process—injecting types of shale with a chemical to release natural gas—pollutes the environment. The group will hold two events on Saturday. One in Kalamazoo’s Bronson Park from 1 to 2 p.m. and another in Hastings that night from 7 to 8:30.
As the possibility of fracking moves closer to the Battle Creek area, so too are efforts to stop it. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is the process of drilling a horizontal well and injecting specific types of shale with a chemical mix to better release the natural gas within.

W.K. Kellogg control tower to escape shutdown

Binder Park Zoo helps preserve endangered Mexican gray wolves
