Police Chief wants apology from City Commissioner Andy Domenico
Battle Creek's police chief is demanding an apology after the county prosecutor said a city commissioner has no evidence of corruption. "I think his behavior insinuating that the Battle Creek Police Department is corrupt has been reckless and embarrassing and he owes the Battle Creek Police Department and the people of Battle Creek a public apology," Chief Jackie Hampton said.

Zapata memorial highway bill approved

Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo County is just a step away from being renamed in honor of a public safety officer killed in the line of duty. State lawmakers have approved a bill to call the 25-mile stretch of freeway the "Officer Eric Zapata Memorial Highway".

Zapata was a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer who was killed while investigating reports of shots fired in the Edison neighborhood in April 2011.

Battle Creek Police Officer arraigned on drunk driving charges

A Battle Creek police officer was arraigned Tuesday on two misdemeanor charges after investigators alleged she was intoxicated while working. Jennifer Appl, 26, appeared before Calhoun County District Court Judge Holmes shortly after 9 a.m. Holmes told her she is charged with driving under the influence of liquor and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Battle Creek Police Officer charged with drunk driving and having a weapon while intoxicated

A Battle Creek police officer was charged Monday with drunken driving and having a weapon while intoxicated. Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert said he issued the warrant after reviewing a report from the Michigan State Police involving Jennifer Appl, 26. Gilbert said the warrants allege that Appl was legally drunk when she reported for work at 10 p.m.
