BC Commissioner seeks meeting on police issues

The FBI, the MIchigan Attorney General's Office, and the Michigan State Police have declined requests to look into allegations by City Commissioner Jeffrey Domenico.
A Battle Creek city commissioner who has alleged corruption and illegal activities in the police department is proposing a meeting next week. "I would like to put a lot of people at the table and hash this out," Commissioner Jeffrey Domenico said Monday. "Maybe there is no reason to escalate this further."

FBI says "no thanks" to BC police probe request

The state Attorney General's Office and MIchigan State Police officials have also declined requests to look into the issue.
The FBI isn't ready to investigate the Battle Creek Police Department, the city said Saturday. Following allegations by a city commissioner of poor management and illegal activities, Police Chief Jackie Hampton said Thursday he requested an investigation by the FBI of the department. But City Manager Ken Tsuchiyama confirmed Saturday that that agency has declined the request.

FBI probe of Battle Creek police sought

Commissioner Jeffrey Domenico has not released details of his allegations of wrongdoing by the police department.
Battle Creek Police Chief Jackie Hampton said Thursday he is seeking an FBI probe of his department in light of allegations of wrongdoing made by a city commissioner. Commissioner Jeffrey Domenico formally requested an investigation of corruption in the department by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette; when the request was denied, Domenico went to Michigan State Police, who have not responded to his complaint.

Battle Creek meeting on crime numbers and police department

Commissioners and residents debate rankings which show high crime rate in Battle Creek. Discussion of police department gets heated.
For more than two hours Monday the Battle Creek City Commission and 100 residents talked about crime and the police department. "I think we got a lot of issues on the table and sometimes you have to do that," Mayor Susan Baldwin said after adjournment. "We heard different sides and concerns."

Battle Creek City Commissioners call for special meeting on policing, crime

Request for meeting comes after questions about use of police vehicles and Battle Creek making lists of dangerous cities.
Following a barrage of attention on the city's crime rate and police department, four Battle Creek city commissioners on Tuesday called for a special meeting in the next two months to discuss both. Commissioner David Walters asked for the meeting, saying it should come in the next 60 days because it may help as the city develops its next budget.
