Judge Says Lawsuit Challenging Michigan's Emergency Manager Law Can Move Forward

Detroit and Benton Harbor are among the five Michigan cities under control of an emergency manager
Detroit A federal judge has reopened a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Michigans emergency manager law, an attorney for plaintiffs in the case said Friday. John Philo, legal director for the Sugar Law Center, said U.S. District Court Judge George Caram Steeh ruled on Thursday that the suit may proceed.

New City Manager Named for Benton Harbor

Emergency Manager Tony Saunders II says the city's return to local control will come "soon," but he has not given a date
BENTON HARBOR - Darwin Watson was named Benton Harbor's city manager Thursday by Emergency Manager Tony Saunders II. Saunders further named Marja Winters, a Detroit native, as assistant city manager/community and economic development director. She will take the place of Nicole Rodden-Bowen, who took a job in Philadelphia.
