Norlander Appointed to 10th District Court

The Tenth District Court in Calhoun County has a new judge.

Governor Rick Snyder announced today that he’s appointed James D. Norlander to the seat that Judge John R. Holmes resigned from. Norlander will have to run in November 2016 if he wants to fill out the rest of Holmes’ term.

Norlander served as an assistant prosecutor in Calhoun County before being elected county prosecutor in 1976. Since 1981, he’s practiced law privately.

Calhoun County officials consider local road taxes

Township officials in the county say they're frustrated by the lack of action in Lansing on the road repair issue.
Want your township roads fixed? It'll cost you $284 million. With more than three-fourths of township roads in poor condition, Calhoun County officials say necessary improvements needed to upgrade all roads in the 19 townships to a "good" rating will require $284,664,930. Township supervisors will have to overcome more than the hefty price tag.

Calhoun County Considers Road Projects

About 60 people were at meeting when it started Tuesday night
MARSHALL - At a special meeting Tuesday, county officials discussed options for funding work needed on beleaguered Calhoun County roads. The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners adopted the Local Road Improvement Funding Program in February. The program outlines various repairs that could take place and how those will be funded, including requiring townships or residents to pay percentages of repair costs.

County board will meet April 22nd to find solutions on road funding and repair
County officials said every option is on the table as they discuss later this month ways to increase funding for road improvements. "I don't know what I favor," Calhoun County Commissioner Steve Frisbie said Friday, "whether it's county-wide, township-wide (millages) or 'Hang on, let the state flesh this all out.'
