Weekend Sports Recap

The minor league baseball teams from Kalamazoo and Battle Creek met for a weekend series. Soccer teams from Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids played Sunday. 


Western Michigan University Athletic Director Beauregard says head football coach P.J. Fleck had “some opportunities” that would have taken him away from the school.

Western Michigan University's football program has won its first bowl game victory ever. The Broncos defeated Middle Tennessee State 45-31 Christmas Eve in the Bahamas Bowl. That's another first for the team and Coach P.J. Fleck. Before the game, WMUK's Gordon Evand talked about it with Kalamazoo Gazette sports reporter David Drew.

Western Michigan University President John Dunn says he still hopes federal regulators can be convinced to keep the tower at W.K. Kellogg Airport open. Western’s College of Aviation is located at the airport in Battle Creek. The Federal Aviation Administration announced on Friday that the tower is one being defunded because of automatic federal spending cuts known as “sequestration.”
