Consumers Energy-Funded Group Running Ads Against Electric Deregulation

LANSING - A group backed by Consumers Energy is buying radio and television ads throughout Michigan opposing efforts to open the electric market to more competition. Citizens for Energizing Michigan's Economy ( CEME) recently formed as a 501(c)4 "social welfare" organization with the goal of blocking efforts to remove a 10 percent cap on alternate electric suppliers.

AUGUSTA, MI - More than three-quarters of the Consumers Energy customers in the Augusta are are without power early Friday morning as high winds and rain passed through overnight. According to Consumers Energy outage map, in Augusta, 1,284 out of 1,652 customers, 77.7 percent, were affected Friday morning.

Scammers threaten Consumers Energy customers

The con artists are phone and door-to-door salesmen who claim to be from Consumers Energy.
KALAMAZOO, MI - By phone and door-to-door, imposter bill collectors are scamming utility customers by claiming service will be disconnected unless a credit card payment is made, Consumers Energy warns. According to a news release from the utility, Southwest Michigan is the area hardest hit by the imposters.

Power outage Sunday in downtown Kalamazoo blamed on squirrel

KALAMAZOO, MI -- All power has been restored in downtown Kalamazoo, a Consumers Energy spokesperson said. At its peak, the outage left 2,094 customers and numerous businesses without power. Traffic lights on West Michigan Avenue and some parking structures in the surrounding area were not working. Gas stations were closed temporarily for the outage.
