Western Michigan University will make ballet history. It will be the first college to dance a ballet so complex - that it’s only been performed by professional dancers. The ballet Lilac Garden was created by English choreographer Anthony Tudor in 1936. 


La Compañía Nacional de Danza Contemporánea

Western Michigan University is finishing up its first international dance residency. The Dominican Republic’s national contemporary dance company - known as La Compañía Nacional de Danza Contemporánea - has been teaching workshops to WMU dance students since Sunday.

On Friday, September 16th they’ll do a free performance for the community. The show starts at 8 p.m. at WMU's Dalton Center in Studio B on the 3rd floor. Best arrive early if you want a seat - space is limited.

Why Greek Fest Meant So Much To Local Bellydancers

Earlier this summer, the organizers of Kalamazoo’s Greek Fest announced that next year the event would be much, much smaller. The large downtown festival would now become a sit down charity dinner for only a thousand people. For many in Kalamazoo, Greek Fest is their first - or only - exposure to belly dance. Local belly dancers say teaching people about this cultural dance helps to keep it alive.
