Inkster, Buena Vista schools face Monday deadline to stay open

Both districts could be dissolved if they can't show state they have funds to stay open
School officials in Inkster and Buena Vista have a final deadline of 5 p.m. Monday to prove to state officials they have the money to open their doors to students this fall. As of last week, both districts were broke, state officials said, and unable to educate their K-12 pupils on the first day of school Sept.

Three finalists considered for Galesburg-Augusta interim superintendent

GALESBURG, MI -- Two elementary principals and a Title I consultant interviewed this week with the Galesburg-Augusta Board of Education to serve as the district's interim superintendent for 2013-14, board President Richard Fletcher said.

Decision on "common core" standards not likely until fall

Lawmakers hope to have issue wrapped up before new state fiscal year begins October 1st
LANSING - New standards for Michigan's students, which were approved by the state Board of Education three years ago, probably won't get a stamp of approval - or rejection - from the state Legislature until after school starts in the fall.
