Benton Harbor to Return to Local Control

LANSING, MI -- Benton Harbor's long financial emergency is finally over. That's according to Emergency Manager Tony Saunders II, who issued what he expects to be his final order on Friday. Saunders notified Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder of the pending action on Thursday and recommended state appointment of a transition advisory board to oversee the return to local control.

Judge Says Lawsuit Challenging Michigan's Emergency Manager Law Can Move Forward

Detroit A federal judge has reopened a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Michigans emergency manager law, an attorney for plaintiffs in the case said Friday. John Philo, legal director for the Sugar Law Center, said U.S. District Court Judge George Caram Steeh ruled on Thursday that the suit may proceed.
