Senators want Great Lakes in climate change plan

The letter says the senators are "disappointed" that the Great Lakes weren't included in the plan released by the White House recently.
Six Great Lakes senators wrote President Barack Obama today, urging him "to fully incorporate the risks and impacts to the Great Lakes" in his plan to confront climate change. Sens. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. are among the letter's signatories.

Great Lakes environmental cuts proposed

The plan before a House subcommittee in Washington would cut spending on the federal Great Lakes Restoration Initiative from $285 million to just $60 million a year.
Proposed funding cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative introduced this week represent the greatest threat yet to the four-year-old program, some environmental groups charged Tuesday. And a failure to restore funding levels could mean the loss of a host of programs that have benefited the Great Lakes region, they added.
