Advocates of cleaning up Allied Paper Landfill still waiting for EPA report

KALAMAZOO, MI - More than 70 people packed into Bell's Eccentric Cafe Thursday to hear an update on the Allied Paper site cleanup effort. Bruce Merchant, the former public works director for the city of Kalamazoo, who has continued to advocate on behalf of the city for cleanup of the Allied Paper landfill, told the crowd there wasn't much new information to report, but the campaign needs to keep its momentum during this waiting period.

Michigan behind other Great Lakes states in recycling programs

Michigan Department of Environmental Quality says Michigan recycles about 20% of municipal solid waste, about 10 percentage points less than other Great Lakes states
LaDonna Woodlaw doesn't do much recycling. That's not to say she wouldn't. Woodlaw lives off Evergreen in Detroit, a section of the city that, like most, doesn't have curbside, throw-it-all-together recycling. If she remembers, she'll take a bag of recyclables when visiting her sister's house in Ecorse, which has curbside recycling, she said.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Trees in Southwest Michigan, and around the state, have been laid low by a combination of forces that include weather, management practices, age and a deadly combination new fungus diseases. Among the hardest hit is the backbone of Michigan landscaping -- the stately Colorado blue spruce.

Enbridge asks EPA for extension of Kalamazoo River clean up

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI - Enbridge, Inc. has asked the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency for an extension to complete dredging of the Kalamazoo River due to continued opposition of two chosen dredge pad sites surrounding Morrow Lake.
