First reading of non-discrimination ordinance in Kalamazoo Township Monday night

Kalamazoo Township trustees will consider an ordinance for first reading that bans discrimination in employment, public accommodation and housing practices. The township's draft non-discrimination ordinance bans discrimination based "in whole or part on the actual or perceived race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, height, weight, marital status, familial status, citizenship, physical or mental ability, gender identity, sexual orientation or genetic information of another person."

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI -- The Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees will consider adopting a non-discrimination ordinance. Trustees on Monday asked Kenneth Sparks, township attorney, to draft an ordinance that likely would extend anti-discrimination housing and job protections to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.

'How to Survive A Plague': A history of AIDS activism

Kalamazoo College will screen the documentary How to Survive A Plague, directed by K-College alum David France, Sunday at the Dalton Theatre at 7 p.m. The documentary follows two major activists groups in the fight to keep people from dying of AIDS, the Treatment Action Group and the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power. Now it’s set to be made into an TV miniseries on ABC.
