The state Senate has proposed similar legislation, but the new House bill would also apply to current prisoners.

State treasurer Andy Dillon did not give a reason for why he’s leaving, but the Gongwer News Service says they expect an announcement later this afternoon. Dillon testified in the Detroit bankruptcy case deposition yesterday where he answered questions about his actions leading up to the bankruptcy filing.

U.S. Representative Mike Rogers announced today that he won’t try for U.S. Senator Carl Levin’s empty spot.


Governor Rick Snyder is calling for the business and education communities to work together to prepare students to enter the job market. He opened his education summit Monday in East Lansing saying the education system is broken. 

The Senate Community Health Subcommittee did not approve Governor Rick Snyder’s proposal for a more than $1.4 million cut. Senator John Moolenar of Midland told Gongwer News Service that the state needs more physicians. Though Graduate Medical Education will have its current funding, the budget did not include an expansion for Medicaid.
