Chicago native and WMU Professor Emeritus Stuart Dybek’s two new collections of stories won high praise from The New York Times Review of Books last month. By the way, his name is pronounced DIB-ek not DIE-bek, though Stuart says he'll accept either.

Artist and entrepreneur Gwen Frostic was born April 26th in 1906 and died one day before her 95th birthday in 2001. She was a Western Michigan University (WMU) alumnus who gifted the university thirteen million dollars.

Writer Rachel Kushner can call any number of places home - Oregon, where she was born, San Francisco, where she was raised, New York, where she attended grad school and was a magazine editor - but it's Kalamazoo where she feels a special kinship.

"Maybe there's something about that," Kushner muses. Me and Kalamazoo have some kind of shared destiny."
