State Senate committee to vote on Medicaid expansion

Lansing - A Senate committee is likely to vote on a Medicaid expansion bill Wednesday, after it was re-written by a Senate work group since passing in the House in June. The bill would reform Michigan's Medicaid system and expand it to all adults with incomes under 133 percent of the federal poverty line.

It’s not easy for rural Michigan residents to access specialized health services. Clinics are often located in bigger cities, which can be a miles away, or even in a neighboring state. However, a mobile hearing aid clinic in southwest Michigan is experimenting with a way to solve the problem.

Kalamazoo County holds first Health Equity Summit

The creator of the nation's first Center for Health Equity in a local health department believes that good health care is a "basic human right" that communities everywhere need to make sure their citizens have. That’s the message Dr. Adewale Troutman, President of the American Association of Public Health in Washington, D.C., says he will deliver on Friday, July 19th, at Kalamazoo County’s first Health Equity Summit in Kalamazoo.

South Haven woman fights for cancer survivors

June 2nd is National Cancer Survivor’s Day. Judy Pearson of South Haven is a breast cancer survivor and the co-founder of the Women Survivors Alliance. She and another cancer survivor, Karen Shayne, say want to support millions of other women survivors as they move through and beyond treatment. They began working on the issue four years ago.
