If it takes a village to raise a child, it likely takes a county to raise a healthy child.That's the idea behind Allegan County's Bringing Healthy Back initiative.The county-wide grassroots movement, which has been in development for the past few years, has been actively working to address the issue of childhood obesity and encourage healthier lifestyles among Allegan County residents.

Nearly 27,000 Enrolled in Michigan's Expanded Medicaid Program

States hope to enroll 320,000 people in first year
LANSING - Michigan has received more than 46,000 applications for the state's expanded Medicaid program in less than a week. As of midnight on Monday, the state had received 46,091 applications and enrolled 26,906 people in the Healthy Michigan plan since it launched April 1, according to the Michigan Department of Community Health.

Kalamazoo County Appoints Acting Health Officer

Linda Vail is leaving to become Health Officer in Ingham County

KALAMAZOO, MI - With current Kalamazoo County Health Officer Linda Vail moving on to serve in same role for Ingham County, the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners Tuesday appointed Josh Jacobs as acting health officer until a permanent replacement is hired. Jacobs, hired in 2010, currently serves as Deputy Director of Kalamazoo County Health and Human Services.
