South Haven Hospital Will no Longer Deliver Babies

SOUTH HAVEN - Affordable Care Act effects and federal budget cuts are hitting close to home for South Haven Health System. The hospital announced Friday it will no longer offer obstetric services. The move is expected to save the hospital $1 million annually, and 19 jobs will be eliminated.

KALAMAZOO, MI - Students at the new WMU School of Medicine will be able to earn both a medical degree and an MBA simultaneously under a new program announced Thursday. Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business and WMed are offering a dual-degree program that would allow medical students to complete a medical degree and a master's in business administration with a concentration in health care in five years.

Polar Plunge Raises $38,000 in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Temperatures in the low 30s may not be considered great swimming weather, but that didn't stop nearly 200 Polar Plunge participants from taking a soak Saturday. Plungers were required to raise at least $75 to participate with all event proceeds going to year-round sports training and athletic competition for 19,613 Special Olympics Michigan athletes.

Bill Would Let Landlords Prohibit Use of Medical Marijuana on Property

LANSING, MI -- Michigan landlords could prohibit the use, possession or cultivation of medical marijuana on private property under a new proposal up for debate this week in the Legislature. Senate Bill 783, sponsored by Sens. Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) and James Marleau (R-Lake Orion), would make it illegal to possess or use medical marijuana on private property if the owner prohibits it.

Officials Hope New Health Clinic in Battle Creek Can be Model for Other Communities

A new health clinic in Battle Creek could set the standard for more to follow. What's being called Michigan's first clinic that serves employees of both a private company and local governments will begin taking appointments Wednesday. The CareHere Health and Wellness Center is located at the Battle Creek Department of Public Works.
