MHSAA Officials Say Team Wrestling and Volleyball Championships to Stay in Battle Creek

The Michigan High School Athletic Association is holding the state individual wrestling championships in the Detroit area this weekend. There was a time, that event was here in Battle Creek. In a few months, the MHSAA will be holding the state baseball and softball championships in East Lansing, moving those events from Battle Creek for the first time this spring.

Storm damage leaves Mattawan High School gym unusable for two more months

MATTAWAN, MI -- Mattawan High School gymnasium is likely to be unusable until at least mid-February, as workers scramble to repair damage caused by a Nov. 17 windstorm, school officials say. The storm blew off part of the gym roof, causing water damage to the gym floor.

Battle Creek reacts to losing high school baseball and softball championships

Battle Creek seemed to have never stood a chance. More than two decades of hosting high school baseball and softball championships came to an end last week, when the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Representative Council agreed to move the events to Michigan State University. The college had invested millions of dollars into facility upgrades.

Former Battle Creek Central football coach remembered for influence on and off field

A big man who left a giant impression on most anyone he coached, former Battle Creek Central coach Jack Finn died this week at the age of 84. Finn died in Midland on Friday and there will be a Celebration of Life service on the campus of Northwood University on June 8.
