Increase Expected in Holiday Travel, Despite Higher Gas Prices

Gas prices may be up about 45 cents over the last year, but that's not stopping people from hitting the roads this Fourth of July weekend. After a brutal winter that saw many parts of Michigan seeing record-breaking snowfall, people are eager to get away for the holiday weekend, said Susan Hiltz, a spokeswoman for AAA Michigan.

MDOT to Lift Many Traffic Restrictions for Memorial Day Weekend

Amtrak to add trains for holiday season

Amtrak will add trains on its busiest Chicago-bound Michigan route in time for the holidays. The extra trains will run on the Pontiac-to-Chicago Wolverine line, which includes a stop in Detroit and connects with the local Blue Water Line in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.

Pets, livestock can't travel out of state without certification

Even if you're just driving to Indiana for dinner, state law requires that the dog have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, issued within the previous 30 days, said Janet Berish, animal health specialist with the Indiana Board of Animal Health.
