(MPRN-Lansing) Infant death rates in Michigan are down overall. But race and income still seem to make a difference in whether children live past their first birthday.

Smoking By Pregnant Mothers See A Spike

(MPRN-Lansing) More Michigan mothers are smoking while pregnant. A new report from the Michigan League for Public Policy shows between 2008 and 2014 the rate of expectant mothers smoking increased by 18 percent in Michigan. 

"KALAMAZOO, MI - Two Western Michigan University students have won another award for their low-cost ventilator for premature infants in developing countries. Stephen John and Joseph Barnett, designers of the NeoVent, were named the U.S. National Winners of the 2015 James Dyson Award, which drew more than 690 designs worldwide." (MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette)

But work remains to be done to reduce infant mortality and close racial gap
