State House Candidates Debate Education, Taxes and More During Forum in Battle Creek

Democrat Andy Helmboldt and Republican John Bizon are running to succeed Kate Segal in the 62nd district
Dr. John Bizon and Andy Helmboldt said students are being taught under a broken education system, but that's about where their agreements stopped. During a forum Monday, the 62nd state House District candidates called for improvements to education amid increasing global competition, as well as infrastructure repairs in Michigan and changes to health care.

Calhoun County Commissioner Terris Todd Running Write-in Campaign for State House

Battle Creek City Commissioner Andy Helmboldt defeated Todd for Democratic nomination
Terris Todd, who fell short of winning the Democratic primary in the 62nd state House District, will run as a write-in candidate. The Calhoun County commissioner said he decided to continue his bid for the seat after being encouraged by his family and supporters.

Helmboldt, Bizon Advance in 62nd House District

Andy Helmboldt won a three-way Democratic primary while John Bizon defeated Calhoun County Commissioner Art Kale for Republican nomination
A political newcomer and a two-term Battle Creek city commissioner will face off in November for the 62nd District state House seat. Dr. John Bizon beat Calhoun County Board Chairman Art Kale 2,900-2,328 in the Republican primary Tuesday night, according to unofficial results. It was the first time Bizon has run for public office.
