Kalamazoo Mayor Takes Job With Lansing Based Medical Company

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo's mayor has accepted a job leading a Lansing-based medical organization. Bobby Hopewell, 50, will start as president and CEO of Mobile Health Resources on Monday, May 12. Mobile Health Resources provides specialty support services such as patient billing, employee engagement surveying, customer satisfaction surveying and group purchasing to health care organizations.

Kalamazoo City Commission to Consider Water and Sewer Rate Increase Monday Night

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo City Commissioners will vote tonight on ordinance amendments that would raise water and sewer rates for customers of Kalamazoo's system. City commissioners held first readings of the ordinance amendments at their April 21 meeting. Residents living in the city could see their combined water and sewer bills go up 5 percent.

1% Raises Approved for Kalamazoo City Attorney, Clerk and Internal Auditor

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo City Commission on Monday unanimously approved 1 percent raises and 1.5 percent lump-sum payments for the city attorney, clerk and internal auditor. The city's non-employee union group last received a lump-sum payment of 0.5% in October 2012 and a 1 percent raise effective January 2013, but city commission appointees were not included.

Kalamazoo Water, Wastewater Rates Could Rise by June

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Water and wastewater rates for Kalamazoo customers could rise by June. City commissioners held the first readings of two resolutions Monday that call for water and wastewater rates to go up.

City Commissioners Propose Anti-Poverty Plan

Kalamazoo City Commissioners say community involvement would be  key to the effectiveness of a proposed anti-poverty initiative.

Commissioners Don Cooney and Stephanie Moore introduced plans for a program called Kalamazoo United for Shared Prosperity or KUSP at a packed meeting at City Hall last night. Among other ideas, they suggested creating a task force to consider solutions and expanding local data collection after the example of Calhoun County’s Coordinating Council.
