City Commissioners Propose Anti-Poverty Plan

Kalamazoo City Commissioners say community involvement would be  key to the effectiveness of a proposed anti-poverty initiative.

Commissioners Don Cooney and Stephanie Moore introduced plans for a program called Kalamazoo United for Shared Prosperity or KUSP at a packed meeting at City Hall last night. Among other ideas, they suggested creating a task force to consider solutions and expanding local data collection after the example of Calhoun County’s Coordinating Council.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo City Commission will talk about poverty in the city at a work session tonight. Commissioners in January outlined five priorities for the city for 2014 and 2015, including that the city commission will take an advocacy role in working toward reducing poverty.

Kalamazoo County Board Agrees to Extend Bronson Park Lease

KALAMAZOO, MI - A one-year lease extension for Bronson Park was finalized Tuesday night after receiving approval from the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners. Under terms of the lease, the City of Kalamazoo will pay the county $1 to lease the park for 2014.

Kalamazoo City Commission Approves Lease for Bronson Park

City officials want to buy the park from the county, and are working on details to acquire it

The Kalamazoo City Commission unanimously approved a lease Monday that calls for the city to lease Bronson Park from the county for one year. The proposed lease now will go before Kalamazoo County commissioners on Tuesday, March 18.
