Kalamazoo County Board Approves $400,000 to Cover Department of Human Services Funding

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo County Department of Human Services should now be able to fund its child care placements for the remainder of 2014 after a $400,000 allocation for the office was approved Tuesday by county commissioners. The emergency allocation was approved by a 9-0 vote.

Kalamazoo County Board Agrees to Extend Bronson Park Lease

KALAMAZOO, MI - A one-year lease extension for Bronson Park was finalized Tuesday night after receiving approval from the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners. Under terms of the lease, the City of Kalamazoo will pay the county $1 to lease the park for 2014.

Kalamazoo County Commissioners Vote to Change Retiree Benefits

The Kalamazoo County Commission voted on the retiree system changes at its Feb. 4 meeting.

Surprise and relief: several Kalamazoo County commissioners expressed those feelings Tuesday night after the commission unanimously approved changes to the county’s retiree benefit system.

The plan – a compromise worked out over several weeks of intense discussions – is meant to close a projected $63 million funding gap in the county’s eventual medical liability.
