KALAMAZOO, MI - David Buskirk will remain the vice-chair of the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners after being re-elected Tuesday night. The board voted at their first organizational meeting of the year Tuesday night to elect Buskirk to an additional one-year term in that position.

PORTAGE, MI - Kalamazoo County Commissioner John Taylor has been elected as the new chair of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party, filling a void created earlier this year when former chair David Pawloski resigned to pursue career opportunities. "I'm honored by the support of all the Democrats here," Taylor, 35, said after being elected.

Kalamazoo County Administrator Peter Battani gets three year contract extension

KALAMAZOO, MI - Kalamazoo County Administrator Peter Battani received a three-year contract extension Tuesday, but not before some county commissioners voiced that they would rather see a two-year deal. Battani's extension was approved by the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners by a vote of 9 to 11, with commissioners Julie Rogers, D-Kalamazoo Township and Phil Stinchcomb, R-Portage, voting against the contract.

Richland Village Council President considers resigning

Village officials, anticipating a large turnout, have moved Monday's 7 p.m. council meeting from the village hall to Gull Lake High School. In addition to Heppler's future status, the council will also take up plans for road work on East D Avenue that may include installing sewer lines.
