Kalamazoo County has adopted a budget for 2016. The Board of Commissioners voted 9-2 to approve the $87 million-and-change appropriation for next year.

Board Chair John Taylor says the county is in excellent financial shape and did not have to cut any programs against its will.

It’ll be a while longer before Kalamazoo County hires a new county administrator. On Tuesday the commission announced that Jeffrey Davis of McLean, Virginia has dropped out of the running. He’s the second finalist - out of three - to back out of the candidate pool.

"KALAMAZOO, MI — Two men vying for the job of Kalamazoo County administrator stated their cases to the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners Monday. Dave Benda, formerly Grand Traverse County's administrator/controller, and Jeffrey Davis, who has spent 29 years as a naval officer, met with the board during hour-long interviews.
