Bike, Pedestrian Policy Gets Cold Shoulder From Kalamazoo Road Commission

Last night members of the Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study proposed a new “Complete Streets” policy, which would force road agencies to add non-motorized paths to roads and bridges after every repair. Commissioner Mark Warden says the county roads are already underfunded and this plan would leave less money for roads and bridges that need to be fixed.

Fever, Bloody Diarrhea Mark Spreading Bug in Kalamazoo County

KALAMAZOO, MI -- State health officials are helping Kalamazoo County health workers try to track the source or sources of a nasty bacterial intestinal bug that has taken a leap in numbers here since April. While the investigation continues, the public's best protection is thorough, soapy handwashing, said Mike Phillips, disease surveillance nurse, Kalamazoo Community Health and Community Services.

Mattawan Receives Grant for Downtown Improvements

MATTAWAN, MI -- The village of Mattawan has received a $285,885 grant for infrastructure improvements along Murray Street. The Community Development Block Grant was announced today by state Rep. Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton), state Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker (R-Lawton) and village officials at Mattawan Village Hall Friday.

Flood Watch for Cass, Berrien, St. Joseph Counties Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph Counties for Thursday. NWS is predicting between a half inch and an inch of rainfall.

Audit finds Vicksburg lost $600,000 in unbilled water, sewer

VICKSBURG, MI - An internal audit by the village of Vicksburg revealed "significant oversights by previous administrations" that include the loss of $600,000 due to unbilled water and sewer hookups, use of village funds to cover cost overruns at the village golf course, and "unusual expenditures."
