Kalamazoo Public Schools continue to work on homework policy

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Three years after setting districtwide homework standards, officials at Kalamazoo Public Schools say the standards are working much better in the elementary grades compared to the middle and high schools. "The elementary teachers bought in, and bought in pretty quickly," KPS Superintendent Michael Rice said during a discussion of the policy at Thursday's school board meeting.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo Public Schools' fall student count is down for the first time since 2005, when The Kalamazoo Promise was first announced. Michael Rice, superintendent of Kalamazoo Public Schools, frequently refers to KPS as "the fastest-growing district" in the state.

Six teachers resign, six others hired at Kalamazoo Public Schools

The Kalamazoo Board of Education accepted six resignations from teachers who left over the summer.
KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education accepted the resignations of six teachers who left during the summer and the appointment of six others hired in the last month. The teachers headed a long list of personnel changes approved by the board at their meeting Thursday.

Kalamazoo school board member to retire

Erving Armstrong will resign from the board at the end of this month for personal reasons.
KALAMAZOO, MI -- Ervin Armstrong, who has served on the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education since 2009, is stepping down at the end of the month for "personal reasons" and the board is seeking to fill the seat. The board treasurer, Armstrong's resignation from the board is effective July 31.
