Kalamazoo Township police officer to be stationed at Kalamazoo Central High School

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo Township Police Department will have an officer stationed at Kalamazoo Central High School starting in September 2013, Kalamazoo Public Schools announced Wednesday. The announcement said that the township and the school district will jointly fund the position.

MEAP test results show improvement for Kalamazoo area districts

KALAMAZOO, MI -- A majority of Kalamazoo-area school districts showed gains in reading and math in all grades on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program exams, according to results released today by the Michigan Department of Education. The local results mirrored statewide trends for the tests, which were administered in October 2012.

KPS, teachers ratify new three contract

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education and the Kalamazoo Education Association have ratified a three-year contract for the district's 800-plus teachers. Teachers will get a 0.25 percent raise for the remainder of this school year and a 1.25 percent one-time bonus. The contract covers 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Citizens committee recommends putting $62-million request on ballot

KALAMAZOO, MI -- A citizens committee is recommending that Kalamazoo Public Schools put a $62 million bond request on the May ballot, according to a presentation to the KPS board Thursday. The bond request would fund the replacement of the older wing of Milwood Elementary School, an auxiliary gym at Kalamazoo Central High School, new technology and buses, and basic upkeep on other schools.
