PAW PAW, MI -- There was little discussion and no decision Wednesday on whether the Van Buren County Board of Commissioners should ask for a countywide millage. Commissioners met Wednesday morning in the Van Buren County main circuit courtroom and listened to the pros and cons of a millage that would pay for services to senior citizens.

Saugatuck and Douglas Left Out of State Grant for Consolidation Study

Saugatuck and Douglas did not receive any money from a state program designed to offset the costs of consolidations."All along, they said this money is here to do these things," said Saugatuck City Manager Kirk Harrier, but the state decided not to help fund the $10,000 study by the Citizens Research Council that said the cities could save about $500,000 if they consolidated.Residents in both cities turned down a proposal in November to merge.

KALAMAZOO, MI - Kalamazoo County residents interested in viewing campaign finance records of local elected officials will soon have online accessibility to those reports. Kalamazoo County was recently selected by Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson to be one of two counties to participate in a pilot program that will offer electronic campaign-finance reporting for local candidates and ballot questions.
