The Battle Creek Symphony presents “An Evening with the Royals” this Saturday at 7:30 pm in W.K. Kellogg Auditorium, led by music director and conductor Anne Harrigan

Tonight the Red Sea Pedestrians trek back to Western Michigan University for a performance at the School of Music. All 6 members of the eclectic klezmer-swing-folk band are WMU alumni. Ian Gorman tells Cara Lieurance about the band’s origins, the development of its unique and versatile style, and the influence of regional stories and folklore from Michigan in their music. This is the first performance featuring new drummer/percussionist Ben Lau.

Western Michigan University majors in vocal performance have been working under the direction of Susan Anthony for weeks to prepare performances of Act Two of Die Fledermaus this Thursday and Friday at the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

Ms. Anthony returned to Kalamazoo after a successful career as an opera singer, mainly in European opera houses. The work she's preparing with the WMU Opera Workshop, a Strauss operetta, is one in which she’s played a role many times.

Fontana Chamber Arts presents saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa and his band at the Wellspring Theatre this Saturday, featuring blazingly original music from his just-released album Gamak

Mahanthappa talks about his early listening experiences from childhood through college, and expresses his preference for live concerts over albums, saying that with live music, social change is possible.
